When Should You Replace Your Makeup Products?
We’ve all done it. Some of us don’t even realise we’ve done it. Others do it without a care in the world.
I’m talking about using out of date makeup.
It might not seem like a huge deal, but using expired makeup can cause you some serious pain, not to mention dodgy makeup looks.
After some time, makeup can begin to break down which means it won’t go on as well and look like it should due to pigment loss. But worse than that, it can start to grow bacteria which can cause skin irritation or infections. Not something you want to mess with.
So when do you need to replace your favourite foundation or lippy?
First of all, if you use a product while you’ve got an infection, it might be best to invest in a new one if there’s a chance of re-contamination. A good example is applying lippy when you’ve got a cold sore.
Secondly, give it a miss if you notice liquid products start to separate (it means the preservatives have stopped working) or powder products go hard.
But apart from that, every product has a life expectancy. I’ve listed the time frames of some of the most used products below so you know when it’s time to hit the shops.
You’ve also got to make sure you’re cleaning your brushes regularly so you aren’t spreading bacteria from them either. You can read what can happen if you don’t here.
Not sure how to clean them? Have a read of this to find out.
Chances are you won’t remember what date you bought each product on, so be sure to label everything with the date so you know how long it’s got left.
You might get away with using an expired product and get cocky, but is your health really worth the risk?
